The Women’s Leadership Conference was held last Saturday, March 10th. There were many wonderful women who presented during the four sessions, but I had the great opportunity to see two MU Staff members speak on issues relating to body positivity. Struby Struble spoke about ‘More Than One Way to be a Woman’ and Kelsey Hammond’s presentation was called ‘Body Positivity’.
Kelsey spoke about how she came to love her body and began photographing nudes of her body. Among many other great things she brought up, she stated her belief that she holds her experiences in her body, that her life is mapped on her body. I really thought this was a beautiful way to see oneself.
Struby spoke a lot about the spectrum that is ‘being a woman’. She gave a lot of tips, too!
-Make a list of things your body can do. Make a list of things you like about your body.
-Remember: You are more than a number.
-Cut the tags out of your clothes.
-Write lists of goals (day, week, month, year, 5 years, 10 years)
-Compliment each other!
These were just a few of the highlights from these presentations and from the conference as a whole.
